Kai Lin, an eleven-year-old musical prodigy, began his incredible journey at just two years old through the Musical Aurora® program at Belle Arti Center for the Arts in Forest Hills, New York. His dedication to music blossomed early, and by the age of four, Kai was studying violin with the world-renowned concert violinist Rachel Varga. Around the same time, he also began honing his piano and composition skills under the guidance of Dominic Carioti. Later, he continued his growth under the mentorship of Maestro Massimiliano Facchini, who serves as his repertoire interpretation coach. This solid foundation of training has led Kai to perform at some of the most prestigious venues in New York City, including Merkin Hall, Adelphi University Performing ArtsCenter, and Flushing Town Hall. Notably, at the tender age of nine, he made his international debut as a violinist, pianist, and vocalist. Kai’s list of accomplishments is nothing short of extraordinary. He is a frequent prize-winner in international music competitions as a violinist, pianist, vocalist, and composer. Most recently, he claimed first prize in the original composition category at the Music International Grand Prix competition. His musical prowess has also earned him a place in the New York Philharmonic's "Very Young Composers" program, where his original orchestral composition will be premiered by the orchestra in February. In addition to his composition achievements, Kai has thrived as a violinist. He has served as the Associate Concertmaster of the Gemini Youth Symphony Orchestra and attended the Philadelphia International Music Festival, working with notable musicians from the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. During the festival, he even explored conducting under the guidance of Thomas Hong, music director of the Penn Symphony Orchestra.
This summer, Kai performed in masterclasses at the Summit Music Festival, learning from some of the most respected names in music, including Julia Meynert, Nicholas Pappon, Dimitri Berlinsky, and others. His musical journey also extends to opera, having made his operatic debut as Amahl in Menotti’s "Amahl and the Night Visitors" with New Jersey Opera Theater. He is set to reprise this role this season at UCPAC. Kai’s versatility is not limited to classical music—he’s equally passionate about jazz, playing both classical and jazz piano, flute, and bass guitar. His jazz studies have taken him to the New York Jazz Academy, where he’s deepened his skills, performing with the Belle Arti Jazz Band. Outside of his demanding musical life, Kai is an honor roll student at the ProfessionalChildren’s School in Manhattan. He’s a happy seventh grader with a love for math and French.
